ARP 202-4304 Head Stud Kit, 8740 Chromoly 12-Point – Nissan KA24DE 2.4L (240SX, Altima, Frontier, Xterra)

What it is

A full set of head studs to replace the factory torque-to-yield head bolts on the KA24DE. Studs thread into the block once and the head is clamped with nuts, which gives even, repeatable clamping and lets you remove the head without disturbing the block threads. On a turbocharged KA this is what keeps the head gasket sealed at boost the stock bolts were never designed for.

Fits

All KA24DE twin-cam 2.4L engines: 240SX S13/S14 (1991–1998), Altima (1993–2001), Frontier (1998–2004), Xterra (2000–2004). The single-cam KA24E in the 1989–1990 240SX and older trucks takes a different ARP kit.

Installation

Clean and chase the block threads, install studs hand-tight, fit the head gasket and head, lube the nut faces and torque in three stages in the factory sequence to ARP's figure (not Nissan's bolt figure). Head-off job; do it with the head gasket.

Why ARP

ARP makes its fasteners in California from its own steel and is the standard for engine studs; the 8740 kit is the right grade for street and moderate boost, with the ARP2000 kit available for serious power.
